Two workshops to help develop a Calne master plan were well attended by community groups and residents.

An evening session on January 16 saw around 70 people welcomed by Trystan Williams, principal of the Springfield Academy.

Alistair Cunningham, director of economy and regeneration for Wiltshire Council, gave some background to the project and an overview of localism and neighbourhood planning.

Later, Calne’s town clerk Linda Roberts led a 30-minute activity to get people involved in identifying the best bits about the town.

An all-day workshop on the following Thursday included a presentation by The Friends Of Abberd Brook.

Alison Padkin, of John’s Associates, talked to people about work under way on the brook.

Attendees took part in a walking tour of sites in the town and were provided with a camera to capture areas of interest, improvement or potential redevelopment.

Arianne Crampton, Wiltshire Council’s head of climate change, gave a talk on renewable energy options.

More workshops are planned for early spring.
