SWINDON Town Ladies defeated Southampton 3-1 in the South West Combination League after dominating throughout.

Town created chances from the off and took the lead through Kirsty Shell following a good pass by from Amy Baker.

The score remained at 1-0 until half-time, when Swindon lost Michelle Rich due to injury.

Nevertheless, Rich’s withdrawal did not prevent the hosts continuing to threaten after the resumption and Shell did not take long in getting her second.

Saints pulled a goal back with their only chance of the game, but Swindon were keen to press home their advantage.

Shell was once more involved as she was brought down for a penalty and Catherine Reid converted from the spot.

Town are at home to basement battlers Gloucester on Sunday at Fairford Town’s Cinder Lane ground (2pm).

Title rivals Swindon Spitfires and Swindon Supermarine played out an enthralling 2-2 draw in the South West Women’s Football League Eastern Division One.

With the Webb’s Wood Stadium pitch unplayable, the game was switched to Spitfires’ home at the Elms.

Supermarine took the lead on 32 minutes when Hayley Huckin broke down the right and crossed to the far post for Alice Smith to knock over the line.

The equaliser arrived shortly before the break as Kayleigh Reeves won the ball and crossed for Emily Sparkes to slot home.

Spits went in front for the first time after the break with Natalie Haigh’s free kick into the six-yard area being headed in by Hannah Gulliver.

The lead only lasted a couple of minutes, though, as Jenny Jones unleashed an unstoppable long-range drive to level.

Keeper Tamsin Kellet thwarted Marine’s Mel Bristow in a one-on-one with a quarter of an hour left to keep the score at 2-2.

Spitfires Reserves opened up a three-point lead at the top of the Wiltshire Women’s League after thrashing Lavington 12-0.

On the scoresheet were Katie Wadey (4), Caroline Hook (2), Amanda Martin, Emma Pinkney, Megan Whitaker and Annabel Martin.

Keeper Shona Hanlon was given a run-out up front in the second half and bagged a couple of goals.

Spitfires Under 15s were knocked out of the South Wilts League Cup by Southampton Saints as they lost 5-1.

The Swindon side took the lead on the half hour mark when Daniella Granato forced the Saints keeper to spill the ball and Serenn Sanghera slotted into the empty net.

However, Southampton were dominant in the second half and scored five goals without reply.
