THE Carp were biting for Gary Etheridge as he strolled to victory in The Ivy House Saturday Open.

Nine of them contributed to a comfortable winning total of 46lb 14oz - virtually three times the weight of nearest challenger Dave Halliday (16lb 10oz). Mick Gale took the silvers honours as six bream made up his 15lb 1oz haul.

Round two of the Ivy House Club Match on Sunday proved a far closer affair, as Joe Thompson took 25lb 15oz from ‘golden peg’ 14, to pip John Williams (24lb 12oz.

John Brady made light work of the cold conditions to win the Roaming Rods event at Bourton on the Water on Sunday. Brady topped a 15-strong field with 50lb of carp and silvers caught on the pole using pellet, meat and corn, with the lowest weight on the day 4lb 12oz of silvers.

Elsewhere, Dave Keen saw off John Williams’ challenge to take top prize at Intake Angling Club’s match at South Cerney on Friday, while Steve Upton was streets ahead of the field in Intake’s Sunday gathering at Ridgeway Fisheries.
