WOOTTON Bassett have signed centre-back Tom Cole as boss Dave Turner hands his side another boost for the run-in.
Turner has swooped for Taylor Gill and James Blake of late but the signing of Cole is arguably the manager’s most impressive coup of the season.
The centre-back is on forms at Supermarine but has been travelling since early in the season, and South Marston boss Dave Webb was happy for the defender to switch to Rylands Way.
“It’s a massive signing for us considering his only really played Southern League and Hellenic Premier football,” said Turner.
“It’s come at just the right time as it looks like Shaun Carter (knee) could be struggling for Saturday.
“I think it shows how far we’ve come as a club that players of that stature are looking to come to us.”
Craig Bowden is available again for the visit of Old Woodstock in Division One West this weekend while Turner has made a seven-day approach for a striker from Highworth.
Meanwhile, Lambourn manager Rob Clark has re-signed former midfielder Bryon O’Regan ahead of the home game against Hook Norton.
O’Regan suffered a leg break in his previous spell at the Berkshire club a couple of years ago and has been working his way back up ever since.
Clark has also signed Kane Lackenby, who has recently moved into the area and will turn out for the reserves this weekend.
Elsewhere in the division this weekend, Fairford face a big game in their battle for third spot as they travel to Tytherington.
Cricklade are also on the road, this time to Clanfield, while rock-bottom Malmesbury make the trip to league leaders Brimscombe & Thrupp.
Purton are at home to North Leigh Reserves at the Red House.
