LIEUTENANT Colonel Zac Stenning and his wife Sarah will take on the Bath Half to thank people who pledged money to their planned New York Marathon run last November.
The Stennings were due to run in New York on behalf of BLESMA, British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association, but the arrival of Superstorm Sandy meant the cancellation of their flights.
The commander of the 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, based in Warminster, will take on the Bath Half Marathon with his wife and fellow 3 Yorks soldier Captain Ibrar Ali, who lost an arm in Iraq in 2007.
Mrs Stenning said her husband would also run the London Marathon in April, to thank all the people who gave money.
She said: “Zac is doing both the Bath Half Marathon and the London Marathon, but I will just be doing the Bath Half. We carried on training after the New York Marathon didn’t happen, although I did take a break at Christ-mas, as I had an injury.
“We raised £10,000 for BLESMA between us and Ibrar, which is just an incredible amount. So many people supported us and we are very grateful.” BLESMA assists soldiers coming to terms with injuries and organises adventure training and rehabilitation events such as skiing and white water rafting.
