Liddington crash driver named
THE driver killed in a crash on a country road on Wednesday night has been named as 22-year-old Kanak Al Islam.
Police are still appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision involving a black Renault Clio and a silver Vauxhall Vectra in Liddington shortly after 11pm on the B4192.
The vehicle, carrying four male passengers as well as the male driver, collided with a road sign and then rolled before coming to rest on the roadside.
The driver of the vehicle and a rear seat passenger were trapped inside the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. The remaining three passengers were able to free themselves from the vehicle.
Emergency services including Wiltshire Police, the Great Western Ambulance Service and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and freed the two seriously injured men.
Both were taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon by land ambulance where the Clio driver died from his injuries.
He has now been formally identified as Kanak Al Islam, of Alfred Street. A post-mortem is due to begin today.
The injured rear passenger was later transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
The three remaining passengers received relatively minor injuries.
A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed without charge pending further enquiries.
Wiltshire Police is appealing for anyone who may have seen this vehicle on or around the B4192 between 10pm and 11.15pm to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
