SWINDON’S PDC ace Johnny Haines reached the fifth round of the second UK Open qualifying event at the K2 Centre in Crawley yesterday.
Haines beat David Dodds, Jake Patchett, Ryan Harrington and Vernon Sheppard before losing out to Peter Wright 6-1.
Dennis Smith, Mark Cox and Chris Aubrey all went out in the first round while youngster Jack Tweddell made round three.
In Saturday’s first UK Open qualifier Cox was the standout local thrower, claiming the scalp of Paul ‘the Asset’ Nicholson and also defeating Dave Ladley, Martin Turner and Max Hopp on his way to round five.
Tweddell, Haines and Aubrey were eliminated in the first, second and third rounds respectively.
None of our local players were able to secure one of the 24 available spots for European Tour Event One at Minehead next month.
Haines went out in the preliminary round on Friday, while there were first-round exits for Smith, Cox, Tweddell and Aubrey.
