The headteacher of Holbrook Primary School is keen to clear internet rumours that an attempted abduction of a pupil took place yesterday.

Police were called by the school, in Holbrook Lane, after a teenager undertaking work experience claimed to have been followed there by a man at around 1pm.

This prompted a number of posts on Facebook and head Roger Whitewick said: “It didn’t involve a pupil from the school, it was a student from Wiltshire College, doing work experience here, who said this man was following her up Holbrook Lane.”

“Understandably, when she arrived at the school she was quite distressed, members of staff looked after her while I went out to see if I could see anyone, but I didn’t.”

It is thought the man grabbed the Wiltshire College student, who managed to break free and run to the school.

After a number of rumours on Facebook, Holbrook Primary School are planning on issuing a letter to parents . The man is described as between 35 and 45, olive skinned, of medium build, and with short dark hair.

PC Helen Daveridge, Community Beat Manager, said: “A young lady was approached by a man asking if she had a boyfriend and touched her on her arm.

"When she said she did, he ran towards the Wilton Drive area. We don’t believe there were any sexual connotations behind the incident but we’d appeal for the man to come forward and contact us.”
