THIS year’s Corsham St George’s Day 10k race will be run in honour of firefighter Martin O’Shea, who was recently diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

Nearly 900 people took part in the annual challenge last year, raising over £5,000 in the process, and the organisers are hoping to enlist more than 1,000 runners this year.

The main beneficiary this time will be the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which works to support sufferers and their families, as well as funding research into the debilitating illness.

As well as the main race an additional 2k fun run will take place around the grounds of Corsham Court, which will start at 9.45am. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers in all individual and team races, with each entrant also receiving a goody bag.

A physiotherapist and professional warm-up will be available at the start of the race, as well as a barbecue, bar and refreshments at the finish line. A St George’s Day theme will also be in place, with fun runners encouraged to dress as either George or a dragon.

The race starts and finishes at Corsham Town Football Club on Lacock Road, on Sunday April 28 at 11am. Registration is £11 in advance for affiliated members of Corsham Running Club, or £13 for non-members. Online registration is at www.corshamrunningclub.
