New DVD to voice Wiltshire's elderly views (From This Is Wiltshire)

Polish children and their families are being helped to feel at home at Newtown Primary School by a Polish teaching assistant.

The school has 33 Polish children and Renata Rogers works part-time to help with their education.

She also acts as a point of contact for parents, who, in some cases, are not as confident in speaking English as their children.

Headteacher Mary Hiscock said: “She has been with the school for a number of years and does a great job supporting pupils and their parents.

“There is a really good integration at the school with the Polish and English children enjoying the culture crossover.

“We also have many other children of different nationalities, making us a really vibrant place to learn.”

Justyna Suszek is a teaching assistant at the school, and she is also aiming to train as a teacher.

She said: “The Polish lady at the school is absolutely great and she acts as a great link between the school and Polish families. I’m really enjoying my time at the school. I’m very passionate about becoming a teacher.”

Mrs Suszek’s children – Kacper, 11, and five-year-old twins Natalie and Nicolas – are also pupils there.

She said: “My children enjoy being at school and have lots of Polish and English friends. They do not see any difference between them.”
