Rotary International president John Minhinick visited Malmesbury last week to praise work done by the town for its flooded homes.
Mr Minhinick and his wife, Sheila, met town mayor Ray Sanderson on Wednesday. Other Rotarians, including Coun Sanderson’s wife, Margaret, and Rotary district governor David Houghton accompanied them to visit houses in St John Street flooded in November.
Coun Sanderson said: “John wanted to see how the houses were being put back together.
“He thought what had been done was fantastic and praised the Rotary for their work.”
The Rotarians then went to Westonbirt Arboretum where Mr and Mrs Minhinick planted a Mexican fir tree to celebrate their visit before heading to Royal Wootton Bassett for lunch with the Rotary Club.
Mr Minhinick is the president of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland for 2012/13.
Coun Sanderson has been a Rotarian for 23 years, and his wife, Margaret, was president in 2011/2012.
