Learn life-saving first aid skills this weekend

People are being offered the chance to learn skills that could prove the difference between a life lost and a life saved on Saturday.

St John Ambulance is hosting its Essential First Aid (All Ages) training course at the St John Ambulance Centre in Bath Street, Frome,  from 10am to 1pm.

The course, which costs £30, is suitable for all ages and covers the main first aid scenarios for babies, children and adults. They include choking, severe bleeding, cardio pulmonary resuscitation and unconscious casualties.

Research carried out by St John Ambulance show up to 140,000 people die every year in situations where first aid may have made a difference.

The survey also revealed fewer than one in five know basic emergency first aid. Jen Forsyth, the charity’s schools, youth and community development spokesman, said: ‘You never know when you may need it – at work, at home, in school, playing sport – but it can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.”
