The best of Melksham have been honoured as winners of its 2012 Civic Awards.
Prizes were presented at the Assembly Hall last Friday, as part of Melksham Mayor Chris Petty’s annual civic reception.
Four awards were given to groups and individuals whose efforts have improved the community.
The Enhancing Melksham Award was presented to Jon Holness on behalf of the Melksham and District Historical Association, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year by erecting 11 blue plaques on historic buildings and creating a town trail booklet.
Former secretary of the association Cathy Berry was unable to attend, but got a personal Community Service Award in her absence.
Councillor Petty said: “Her unfailing willingness to respond to the many and various historical enquiries has reflected so positively on both the Historical Association and Melksham generally. The advice and information she had provided has been gratefully received by all those who have sought help and assistance.”
Another Community Service Award went to Bob and Sue Mortimer, for organising monthly charity dances at Melksham House.
Skateboarder James Threlfall got a Sporting Award for running the town skatepark.
Cllr Petty picked out highlights of 2012, including the summer food and drink festival, the Extended Services youth awards and the freedom of the town for the 2385 RAF cadet squadron.
Lauren Fairley was named Mayor’s Cadet for 2013.
Cllr Petty said: “It went really well, everybody seemed to really enjoy themselves.”
