There was no problem finding Where’s Wally at Queen’s Crescent in Chippenham yesterday as the primary school was invaded by hundreds of the colourful character.

Almost 350 pupils and 30 members of staff came to school dressed as the red-and-white-striped children's figure to celebrate the 16th World Book Day.

Even headteacher Julia Hawkins got kitted out in a stripey T-shirt, bobble hat and glasses.

Teaching got a little confusing as everybody looked the same, said admin supervisor Carol Boddy.

“Nearly everyone took part and there was a really nice atmosphere around the school,” she added.

World Book Day encourages literacy and taking pleasure in reading and is marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
