A motorcyclist had a lucky escape this morning after he was hit by a lorry on the roundabout at Yarnbrook..

The man was riding a BMW 1170cc bike, travelling from Melksham to Westbury, when he was in collision with a lorry, travelling from Westbury, on the roundabout by The Longs Arms at 11.06am.

The lorry pushed the motorcyclist and his bike for 60 metres before stopping after cars travelling towards Westbury repeatedly flashed the driver.

Paramedics arrived at the scene at 11.13am to check the man over, but he only suffered bruises to his legs.

Sgt Jim Suter, from the Neighbourhood Police Team at Trowbridge, said: “He is a very lucky man. When you get a call to say a bike is under a lorry you fear the worst, but luckily he was standing up when I arrived.

“Apart from bruises to his leg he was fine. The lorry driver only stopped because all the drivers travelling towards Westbury from Trowbridge were flashing him.”
