New community beat manager for Chippenham (From This Is Wiltshire)

John Brixey has joined Chippenham’s Neighbourhood Policing Team as the new community beat manager. 

Mr Brixey, 49, has lived in Chippenham for 16 years and has an 18-year-old daughter there. He joins the team from Swindon, where he worked as a response sergeant. His predecessor Rachel Webb left to work in Malmesbury in September.

Mr Brixey, who grew up in Corsham, joined the force 11 years ago. He used to be a sales rep for the commercial radio company GWR in Bath and would play cricket with Jeremy Kyle when he worked for the same station at Wootton Bassett.

Mr Brixey will supervise the police community support officers, look at issues of the concern to the public and act as a link between the police and the council.

“I’m very much looking forward to getting stuck in here and meeting people,” he said.

“I am committed to easing the concerns of all those who live and work in Chippenham. One person walking past some youths will just see some jolly japes but the next person will see anti-social behaviour and you’ve got to address the concerns of people who live here.”

He will be working in partnership with licensing and aims to ensure people are not being served while drunk.

He said: “We will be vigorously patrolling streets on Friday and Saturday nights to ensure alcohol fuelled assaults are few and far between.

“Chippenham is a very safe place. We want people to come and have a nice night out but they need to realise that they must behave.”
