George Osbourne-alike at Oxfam in Devizes (From This Is Wiltshire)

The Chancellor of the Exchequer turned up in effigy at the Oxfam shop in Devizes yesterday to support local volunteers in their campaign to urge George Osbourne to remember the poor of Britain and the world in his budget next week.

The volunteers who man the charity shop in Maryport Street have joined thousands of others across the UK to demand that the UK Government addresses what they see as the root cause of hunger.

The campaign called Enough Food for Everyone IF is gaining in appeal, says the charity and Matthew ? from Oxfam donned a mask of Mr Osbourne to drive the message home.

Shop manager Fran Dunn said: “We are urging our MP Claire Perry to ensure there is enough food for everyone and support the IF campaign.

"We hope she will write to George Osbourne and David Cameron to ensure the commitment to 0.7 per cent of the budget is kept for aid and make sure companies like Amazon in the UK and overseas pay their fair share of tax.

“I really believe that our local MPs should get behind campaigns like this which aim to tackle hunger. We produce enough food for everyone and yet 900 million people go to bed hungry every day.”
