Students at Seend Primary School discovered Indonesian art when they tried their hands at traditional batik fabric design.
The year 3 and 4 pupils were visited by Sam Butter, an art teacher from Melksham Oak Community School, who showed them how to perfect the technique.
She said: “Batik is part of an ancient tradition originated in Java, Indonesia, and some of the finest batik cloth in the world is still made there – as well as at Seend Primary School.
“Students soon learnt that you had to draw quickly to gain a thin wax line, otherwise pools of wax would spread on the fabric.
“Both times they tried the method they were delighted with their results.”
Headteacher Jackie Chalk said: “We are extremely grateful for Sam’s time and resources to help support the learning of our children. This is just one of the many ways that Melksham Oak have supported the work of our school and other local Secondary Schools.
“As so many of our children go from here to Melksham Oak, any opportunity for the children to meet the staff and have links makes starting at secondary school that much smoother for them.”
