GREYHOUND racing’s newest initiative comes to Swindon today with the Blunsdon leg of the BAGS/SIS Easter Eggstravaganza.
The competition offers prize-money in the region of £125,000 and will see 16 tracks stage qualifiers ahead of Grand Finals’ Day at Monmore Green in Wolverhampton on Good Friday, March 29.
The Eggstravaganza kicked-off on Saturday March 2 with Poole staging the opening six races, with the winners joining successful dogs from the likes of Kinsley, Nottingham and Swindon in qualifying for Monmore on Good Friday.
Swindon's qualifiers will comprise two standard distance bitch events, a standard dog contest, a sprint and two six-bend stayers races.
“Given the different distances and variety at all our tracks, it was about trying to get six runners for each of 16 races over as many distances and criteria as possible,” said Scott Harvey, Bags deputy secretary “It was quite a jigsaw puzzle, but great fun and I’ve had great feedback from the racing managers.
“As well as the individual races and the terrific prize-money we are able to offer, there is a team element to the day with the track collecting the most points from runners in the six races they compete in taking home £6,000, £3,000 for second and £1,000 for third.“ In addition, each track in the top three on the day will share a total of £20,000 in extra prize-money for their future Bags meetings.”
