Mobility scooter rider taken to hospital after collision

A MAN was taken to Great Western Hospital on Saturday after he was knocked off his mobility scooter.

David Lawrence’s vehicle was in collision with a Kia in Newhall Street in the town centre at about 1.15pm.

The male Kia driver was reported for careless driving and driving without a valid MoT certificate.

Acting Inspector Simon Drewett, of Wiltshire Police, said: “We were called out to a report of an injury collision between a Kia and a male on a mobility scooter. An ambulance was also called to the scene.

“The mobility scooter occupant was taken to Great Western Hospital.”

A spokesman for Great Western Ambulance Service said: “We had a rapid response vehicle on scene at 1.17pm and a second one arrived a couple of minutes later. We requested ambulance back up at 1.25pm.

“The mobility scooter driver was not believed to be seriously injured but was taken to Great Western Hospital for further treatment.

“He was fully conscious and breathing throughout. We left the scene at 1.51pm.”
