Pupils go green with Robin Hood play (From This Is Wiltshire)

PEATMOOR Community Primary School will be part of a big green wave sweeping the UK’s schools next week.

The children are gearing up to showcase their eco-credentials during Green Schools Revolution Week from The Co-operative.

Throughout the week The Co-operative is challenging schools to complete a range of sustainability activities each day, ranging from Energy Monday to Fairtrade Friday with biodiversity, healthy eating and water-themed activities in between. Peatmoor Community Primary School, in Pepperbox Hill, is bringing its environmental work to life with a production of Robin Hood – complete with indoor forest, bows made from willow trees at the school, and recycled costumes.

The school is also staging The Big Pedal 2013, encouraging children and parents to get on their bikes and scooters. In addition, all children will be challenged to do something green during their Easter holidays.

Andrew North, regional secretary for The Co-operative in the South West, said: “Last year hundreds of schools up and down the country took their environmental work to new levels during Green Schools Revolution Week, and the feedback we had was fantastic.

“This year we were keen to bring together many of the themes covered by the programme and give practical suggestions for activities, which provides an easy-to-use structure for the week.

“Collectively, schools up and down the country will be making a powerful statement in support of the environment.”

Green Schools Revolution offers educational resources and activities on sustainability to teachers and parents.

It has been designed to inspire the next generation of green pioneers, with free lessons, trips and green activities available to all UK primary and secondary schools.
