Trowbridge Tesco store suffers power cut

The Tesco store in County Way, Trowbridge, has been forced to turn away customers after a power cut.

One of the sub stations serving the store was affected, rendering the tills out of action in both the store and petrol station. The store's cash machines are also out of order.

Staff are directing traffic away from the car park and it is not known when power will be restored.

I was shopping in Tesco when the power cut happened. The staff were brilliant, and tried to get as many customers as possible through the checkouts before the back-up power ran out. It was obvious that they were doing their best, so it was disappointing to see that some customers felt the need to moan about something which was clearly beyond the control of staff.

Typical that people were moaning when the store staff were obviously trying their best in difficult circumstances! You lot should be ashamed of yourselves, go home, have a cup of tea, and get a life. Now think about the staff who are still working their shift, on little more than the minimum wage!

What was the ratio of moaners to non-moaners?
Are you sure they weren't just miserable shoppers which can be seen in Tesco anytime.
Are you sure that moaning types don't usually drink tea when returning home.
Why do we need to think about people working their shifts?

Coincidentally or otherwise electrical power was also lost at the Asda store in Trowbridge several weeks ago though I don't remember that story making it into the WT. Security personnel were posted on the (open) electric doors to inform potential shoppers and prevent them entering the store. I have since been told by Asda employees that Asda have a generator which cuts in to protect all the frozen food in the freezers but this does not have the capacity to power the entire store in an emergency.

Likewise a power cut on 8th March in Winsley and district including the Dorothy House Hospice did not manage to reach the newspapers on that day. Fortunately the hospice have a generator which enabled care to continue unabated. A previous power failure involving the hospice was swiftly dealt with by Southern Electric Contracting although the hospice had to borrow diesel to run the generator (very efficient!!).

Given the pantomime of energy policy - I think ASDA and Tesco will be buying more generators and stocking industrial quantities of candles next year.
