Carol Sampey with her national award
Shaw Primary School deputy headteacher Carol Sampey was honoured on Monday, when she won a national science teaching award.
Ms Sampey, who has been at the school for four years, was one of six teachers to win the Primary Science Teacher of the Year award, from the AstraZeneca Science Teaching Trust.
The school was one of eight primaries across the country to be recognised in the awards, and was also awarded £1,000, which it will use to develop a nature walk through the school grounds.
