Primary schools in Westbury are taking part in a Healthy Eating Family Learning Project for Year 6 children.

At Westbury Leigh Primary, parents were invited in on two mornings, when they and their children looked at balanced diets.

They also examined the sugar content of different foods and thought about what impact eating a lot of sugar can have on dental health.

Then everybody made pizzas to take home and parents designed a healthy meal with their children. Holt Primary School took part in the national BIG Cookathon to get lots of youngsters cooking healthily on the same day. Eight members of its Let’s Get Cooking after-school club prepared and served chicken and vegetable korma with rice for 20 people.

School business manager Denise Butterworth said: “The food tasted beautiful.”
