HELLENIC LEAGUE: Bassett boss takes heat off his promotion-chasers (From This Is Wiltshire)

WOOTTON Bassett may be just one win away from promotion to the Hellenic Premier, but boss Dave Turner says their season will not be defined by this weekend’s clash.

Bassett travel to Tytherington tomorrow, who alongside gameless Fairford are mathematically able to overhaul them for the second promotion spot, but three points for Turner’s men in South Gloucestershire will see the race ended.

Nevertheless, the boss is playing down the importance of tomorrow’s meeting with the Rocks.

“We aren’t going to put pressure on the players, we’ll treat it like any other game,” said Turner.

“Saturday is not going to define our season, win, lose or draw, I fully expect us to see the job through.

“If we can win, brilliant, but it’s not the end of the world if we don’t. “We’ve got enough games left to get the points we need. We aren’t looking behind, we’re looking up.

“They have to win all their remaining games and we need to lose five out of six having only lost three all season, and I don’t see that happening.”

Turner is relishing the prospect of tomorrow’s fixture and feels it will be one of his side’s toughest tests.

“This will be one of our most difficult games of the season,” he said.

“I said at the beginning of the season that Tytherington would be in the top three and I still believe that.

“I genuinely believe if they had had a better start then they could have won the league.

“They have beaten Brimscombe and I have the utmost respect for them.”

James Turner is the only player missing for Bassett this weekend with everyone else available.

Elsewhere in the division, Cricklade take on Purton in a local derby while Lambourn host North Leigh Reserves.

In the Hellenic Premier, Shrivenham begin a schedule of three games in six days when they clash with Wokingham & Emmbrook at Barrington Park.

Highworth are without a game so will have to wait to further their survival chances.
