A BRIDE rubbished tradition and turned up to her big day in a dustbin van.

Hannah Nuttall, 24, of Old Town, opted for the the unusual mode of transport as she married Will Banyard, 28, who has been a dustbin man for the last three years.

Hannah wanted something different to make her wedding special and she turned a few heads as she made her way to Swindon Register Office on Saturday.

The newly-weds had planned to go and watch Swindon Town after the ceremony with Hannah still in her wedding dress, but because of the Easter weekend, Town’s game was moved to Friday.

Hannah said: “I always wanted to do something different on my wedding day to make it stand out and we thought nobody would have turned up in a dustbin van.

“Will has worked as a dustbin man for three years and we wanted to keep the budget down, so rather than paying a lot for a fancy car we thought it would be a great idea.

“The reaction we have had is great and it is just something else to remember the day by.”

The couple have been together for a year and a half and it wasn’t just on their the wedding day that they wanted to stand out from the crowd, as Will made sure that his proposal would be just as memorable .

While they were at the Download Festival in June last year, the couple went to watch Hannah's favourite band Black Sabbath perform on stage. During the performance Will got down on one knee.

“I was already crying because Black Sabbath are lmy favourite band, so it was a big shock,” said Hannah.

“I said yes straight away but then I had to check with Will whether he had just asked me to marry him.

“It made the whole festival very special.”

Following the ceremony on Saturday, the newlywed couple climbed back in the dustbin van and were taken to The Victoria pub in Old Town for the reception.
