Pupils, teachers, parents and grandparents in Rowde have made a large textile banner to celebrate the primary school’s Academy status.

Each class was given a theme – the school’s church, the school’s swan emblem and the four school houses (White Horses, Silbury Hill, Avebury and Stonehenge) – and the parents’ association raised money to pay for the resources needed.

Each had a different textile technique: felt applique, batik, knitting and weaving, crochet and knitting dolls, embroidery, tie dye and fabric pens.

Each pupil had a square of fabric on which to produce their piece of art.

The school held a banner day where parents and grandparents came in to help, including with knitting and weaving.

When all the squares were completed, they were sewn together to complete the banner.

Mandy Wood, class four teacher and art co-ordinator, said: “There was a fantastic creative atmosphere during the whole day and the children are really proud and pleased with the finished result. The banner will now be hung in the school corridor for the children to enjoy looking at, and talking about, for a long time to come.”
