Eighteen-year-old Tom Savage of Chippenham was referred to WADS by his GP and earlier this year he was diagnosed as having Asperger syndrome, a form of autism.
Mr Savage, of Fredericks Avenue, knew there was something different about him but could not explain it.
He said: “I have this huge imagination and I prefer being on my own. I also like to categorise stuff and organise things. I have got close friends who I like to spend time with but I’m not so good socially with other people.”
Mr Savage, who went to Queens Crescent Primary School and Hardenhuish School, both in Chippenham, said of getting the diagnosis: “It was a really good experience. I felt like I finally fitted in somewhere rather than just being different.”
Mr Savage chats with other people who have Aspergers on Facebook in New Zealand.
WADS has referred him to a transitions to work team funded through Wiltshire Council to help him find jobs. He will go to Bournemouth University to study environmental science and geography next year.
