Animal charity Cat Rescue, based in Chippenham, has been awarded a £500 donation from the UK’s largest pet insurance provider, Petplan.

Cat Rescue is a volunteer led organisation, rescuing and rehoming cats throughout Wiltshire and the surrounding areas.

Cat Rescue owner Jean Gilbert said: "As a rescue we are taking in more and more older cats and they are not always easy to rehome. We are hoping to build a chalet to house these older cats until someone comes along to offer them a new home.

"This money from Petplan has come at a perfect time because it will help us to build the chalet and also kit it out with heated beds and other comforts the older cats need. We are very grateful to Petplan as any money is always a great benefit to the cats and kittens that come into our care."

Working with more rehoming charities than any other insurer, Petplan helps fund the care of thousands of homeless cats and dogs throughout the UK.

Petplan offer four weeks free insurance to every owner adopting pets through the shelters it supports and also offers free insurance vouchers to visitors and supporters of the charities.

Each month a prize draw is held from all the insurance vouchers issued and one charity benefits from the prize fund.

Isabella Von Mesterhazy, head of marketing at Petplan, said: “We are pleased to be able to provide this donation to Cat Rescue, they do a fantastic job caring for animals in the community."
