MALMESBURY boss Gareth Davies wants to snap up a large chunk of his 2013/14 squad tomorrow night.

The Hellenic League Division One West side have got no one signed for the upcoming campaign as yet, but the new manager is confident he will have multiple players confirmed imminently.

Central midfielder Luke Cordery is one of the players whose future is unclear as he has been training with Swindon Supermarine.

Vics’ first friendly is at Wiltshire League outfit Marlborough on Saturday and Davies said: “I’m hoping we can get most or all of them done on Thursday night, that’s the plan anyway.

“We had 15 or 16 blokes at training last time and three or four away that will be in the squad for Saturday.

“All the foundations have been laid and once you get one or two, it tends to go from there.”

Elsewhere in the division, Fairford have brought back Callum Parsons and Steve Hall for the upcoming season, while Matt Boucher has arrived from Brimscombe & Thrupp.

In the Hellenic Premier, new Wootton Bassett boss Jeff Roberts has got 15 players signed on so far as he looks to guide his promoted side into the upper echelons of the table.

Six players have come in from Roberts’ former club Calne, including highly-rated keeper Steve Allison, 18-year-old striker Rory Worthington, Levi Cox and Tyler Sheppard.

Among those returning from last year’s Bassett squad are Adam Corcoran, Shaun Terry and Steve Yeardley.

Shrivenham have organised one of local football’s more notable friendlies against a US touring side.

The Barrington Park outfit will play Whitman College, who are based in Walla Walla in Washington state, on Monday, July 29.

Shrivvy manager Dave Turner said: “The Americans like to play football, they get the ball down and pass so it should be a useful exercise.

“It’s nice to play someone different because we won’t be drawing them in the FA Cup, that’s for sure.”

In the short term, Shrivvy play their first friendly at home to Southern League Cirencester tomorrow (7.45pm).

The club’s reserve side are still looking for a new manager and anyone interested should phone Neil Sutton on 07710 255063.
