THE COUNTY men’s national championship competitions reach a climax at Swindon Westlecot this Sunday with places at Worthing in the national championships to represent Wiltshire on offer for all the victorious semi-finalists.

The semi-finals in three events - singles, junior singles and pairs - plus quarter and semi-finals in two wood singles will be staged during the day in a packed programme.

The singles quarter-finals were held at Chippenham Town on Monday night with Graham Hatherall (Westlecot), Wootton Bassett’s Tom Walkley, England international Graham Shadwell (Spencer Moulton) edging home by one shot, and Mike Jackson beating fellow Westlecot team mate Mel Biggs 21-6, to reach the last four on Sunday.

The junior singles quarter-finals were staged at the end of last month with Tom Walkley, Nick Revell, Kyle Anderson and Paul Stokes all successful and booking their semi-final slots.

The pairs competition has currently only reached the last eight stage but the quarter-finals are due to be played on Friday evening at Holt with the four winners advancing to Westlecot on Sunday.

Meanwhile the two wood singles has only reached the last eight as well but the quarter-finals and semi-finals will all be played at Westlecot on Sunday afternoon.

Afternoon Session (noon) Two Wood Quarter-finals: 1 Chris Easton (Avon) v Brian Godwin (Spencer Melksham) 2 Mel Biggs (W’lecot) v Dave Snell (WB) 3 Dave Edmonds (WB) v G Hatherall (W’lecot) 4 Keith Bailey (Holt) v Dave Godwin (Chippenham Town).

1pm, Two Wood semi-finals: Winner 1 v Winner 2; Winner 3 v Winner 4.

2pm Pairs semi-finals: Biggs or Bailey v Wayne Snook (Holt) or G Hatherall Mick Sawyer (West End) or Neil Smith (WB) v Danny Comley (Malmesbury) or J Webb (Alderbury).

Junior Singles semi-final: T Walkley v Nick Revell (Amesbury).
