Talks over unkempt Stonebridge Meadow

Concerns have been raised about the upkeep of Stonebridge Meadow which has been jointly owned by the town council and Action for the River Kennet (ARK) since 2011.
The issue was discussed at Monday’s full town council meeting where residents spoke about the lack of maintenance since ARK took part- ownership.
Coun Brian Castle, a trustee on the Stonebridge Meadow management committee, said there was due to be a meeting with two representatives of ARK yesterday.
He said: “It’s a listening session; we’re not going to push anything to a head because I feel sure ARK is aware of their failings.”
Recently residents have contacted the town council about the overgrown footpaths, litter and lack of seating, among other issues.
Coun Stewart Dobson said: “If you look at their management plan it’s clear that they want to leave a lot of area as you see it but we, as councillors, have spent public money to produce this.
“There are a lot of people who wouldn’t share these views of having two-metre high nettles and thistles.”
The findings of the management meeting will be taken to the amenities and open spaces meeting on August 27.
