BRADFORD on Avon-based Grace Davies-Redmond continued her fine form by clinching a hat-trick of golds at the South West Track & Field Championships in Exeter on Sunday, writes Kevin Fahey.
The 15-year-old, who won a superb silver at the England Athletics Combined Events Championships earlier this month, won the U15 girls’ 200m and 80m hurdles races, as well as the long jump.
Of her three wins, Davies-Redmond’s 200m triumph was her most impressive as the St Laurence School pupil smashed her personal best, breaking 25 seconds for the first time with a sizzling time of 24.88secs.
That time, aided by a legal 2.0 following wind, was quicker than both the senior women’s winner and fellow Wiltshire athlete Loren Bleaken’s time in the U20s, lifting her to 11th in the UK Rankings.
Her hurdles time of 11.91secs was also her quickest for the event but the following wind was just over the legal limit, while her 5.32m was her best legal long jump mark of the season.
Westbury sprinter Will Kennedy was the other big Wiltshire winner as the 15-year-old won the U17 men’s 100m and 200m titles.
In the shorter sprint, Kennedy recorded his first electronic time under 11 seconds, of 10.98, but the wind was a fraction over the legal limit at 2.2mps.
In the 200m, the Westbury youngster’s time of 22.66secs was his fourth-fastest of the season behind his PB of 22.41secs on the same track in June.
Meanwhile, Melksham Oak student Will Stockley also tasted success as he took gold in the under 15 boys’ 1500m.
