KICK-OFF: Third time in a row is our goal
DEREK Graham thinks securing a place in the top tier of the Calor League for the third time in a row would make for a successful season at Frome Town.
The Robins’ chief, who stepped up to replace Darren Perrin in the Aldersmith Stadium hotseat towards the end of the season, has been charge of his first pre-season with Frome this summer and is aiming to maintain his side’s standing in the Premier Division.
The Robins secured a 12th-placed finish in the 2011-2012 campaign before beating the drop by two points last season and manager Graham is hoping that grit and determination can help his team continue to hold their own in a challenging league.
“Last season, we finished just above the relegation zone and if we could do that again, that would be an achievement for us,” he said.
“It’s a really difficult league to be in and we’re up against lots of sides that are spending big money on players. But sometimes you can close the gap on them by working as hard as you can, which is what we’ll be aiming to do again.
“Darren’s legacy at the club is that kind of hard-working attitude and we don’t want that to go away.
“Pre-season has been good and having Micky Byrne (assistant manager) and Lloyd Chamberlain (goalkeeping coach) has meant that I could just leave those two to it and supervise everything.
“We’re where we want to be and we may have lost a few players that we wanted to try and keep but I still think we can carry on causing a few upsets this season.”
Graham has been busy acquiring new faces this summer after a host of departures including Dean Evans, Ricky Hulbert, Dave Thompson and Tom Evans.
Ryan Charles, Will Agbo, Rhys Baggridge, Kurt Hammonds, Giani Kapika, Matt Lattibeadiere, Bobby Medjedoub, Bryan Smith, Ollie Woolland, Ryan Elliot and Charlie Basilone have all joined Frome, whilst former skipper Jon Crowley and Ben Thomson have returned.
