FA CUP: Celebratory pints top Fisher's cup criteria
HIGHWORTH face an FA Cup trip to Bournemouth tomorrow and boss John Fisher is hoping for a few celebration drinks on the way back to Wiltshire.
The Elms side take on their Wessex League Premier Division counterparts in the extra preliminary round and Fisher is confident he will have a winner’s lager in hand come Saturday evening.
“We’re leaving at quarter past 10 and stopping off for a pre-match meal because we’re trying to do it all the right way,” said Fisher.
“It’ll be scrambled egg on toast or something like that, but it just gives the lads something different to make the FA Cup a little bit special.
“Hopefully we’ll stop somewhere on the way back and have a few pints, that’s the criteria.
“Anything can happen in the FA Cup as they say. We’re expecting to get through, but who knows?”
For their part, Bassett welcome Totton & Eling to the Corinium and manager Jeff Roberts is hoping to have at least one new face on board for the cup clash.
Off the back of signing Cirencester midfielder Sam Packer, Roberts has been speaking to further players about joining the squad.
“We’re talking to a couple of players who have been told to go out on loan and hopefully one of them will come in Saturday,” said Roberts.
“We’ve spoken to both and they seem quite keen, so hopefully we’ll get them in and build from that.”
Bassett will be without dual-signed midfielder Jordan Roberts - also a Supermarine player - who is banned off the back of his dismissal in the Southern League Division One South & West play-off semi-final against Merthyr last season.
Ryan Stanners and Alex Rigley are unavailable while Levi Cox will be rested.
Roberts added: “We’ve got a few out Saturday and it’s a shame because we’d have liked to have had the same XI that started against Highworth, to give us a bit of stability.”
Elsewhere, Shrivenham will go in search of their first win of the season when they travel to Combined Counties Premier Division outfit Westfield.
Recent signing Nathan Blackford, who has been on trial at Supermarine recently, looks set to feature.
