Alfie the Alligator pulls in punters
ALFIE the Alligator proved a hit with the locals when the Adver brought its roadshow to the Village Inn in Shaw last week.
Greta Richardson, manager of the Village Inn in Shaw, said Alfie had been a talking point in the area all week, and children had come along solely to meet the Newsquest alligator.
“With Alfie here, there has never been a dull moment,” she said. “People have been coming in specifically to see him, so it has been great for business.”
Greta added the pub had been promoting charity events in the area for the last year since winning an Adver award had given them some attention.
“We have been quite charity driven since we won the Adver Pub of the Week last year, which brought in a lot of great publicity.
“Over the last year we have raised about £450 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, and we have our charity dog in the corner collecting for them.
“We raised a lot of money for our football team too, which we are very keen to keep supporting.
“We also have an annual karaoke competition mocking up Stars in their Eyes.
“There are some really good community nights where everyone gets involved.
“We try to make this a place where everyone is welcome and there is something for everyone, and Alfie has definitely helped with that.
