OAP installed mini camera in shower

A PENSIONER tried to film women as they showered by hiding a tiny camera in a tube of false teeth cleaner, a court has heard.
Richard Miller was caught when a woman who was using the shower spotted a small light flashing in the Steradent tube – and discovered the device.
When police looked at what the camera had recorded, they saw images of the 80-year-old as he positioned the tube in the shower cubicle – but he told police he had just been checking for a water leak.
Miller, of Gassons Way in Lechlade, admitted a charge of voyeurism – recording a private act with the intention of gaining sexual gratification.
Chris Smyth, prosecuting, told Gloucester Crown Court the woman called police on September 16 last year after seeing the red light flashing in the tube.
Officers carried out a search that revealed the camera hidden inside it and when they viewed the footage saw Miller placing it to face the shower as well as the victim in the shower.
Miller, who had no previous convictions, was arrested and told police he’d ‘installed the camera to check for a water leak,’ Mr Smyth said.
Lloyd Jenkins, defending, said Miller was an 80-year-old in poor health. He accepted there had been an element of planning in committing the offence.
“He has been foolish, he is embarrassed and ashamed and deeply regrets what he has done,” Mr Jenkins said.
He had not gained any gratification from his efforts to make a film and there had been no attempts to circulate or distribute any material, Mr Jenkins added.
Judge William Hart described Miller’s offences as ‘shameful’ and ‘wholly inappropriate’.
"A custodial sentence must be imposed, but in view of your age and previous good character, I will suspend the sentence,” Judge Hart said.
He imposed a six-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, and ordered him to undergo supervision for 18 months. He also imposed a sexual offences prevention order and ordered Miller to sign the sex offenders register for seven years.
He also ordered that the camera be confiscated and destroyed.
