Four-year-old Loui Crowther will take one of the biggest steps of his life when he starts at mainstream school next week.
But his parents believe it would not have been possible without the help of a specialist nursery in Devizes.
Loui was born with health problems which have affected his development.
But he is looking forward to joining his sister Emiligh, six, at Shaw Primary School, near Melksham.
His mother Kayleigh, 28, said: “If it had not been for the help I received from Devizes Opportunity Centre I don’t think there is any way he would be going to mainstream school.
“The nursery is fantastic. They have supported not only Loui but all of us as well. They helped me with all the forms so he could get a full statement which allows him to have a teaching assistant so he will be able to cope.”
Mrs Crowther, of Berryfield Park, Melksham, wants to highlight the work of the opportunity centre, as it is trying to raise £40,000 this year for running costs.
The nursery, which takes children aged from birth to five with special needs, receives money from Wiltshire Council but has to make up a shortfall which can change from year to year.
Loui has a rare chromosome disorder that stunts his growth and impairs his immune system. He is the height of a two-year-old and his speech was delayed.
Mrs Crowther said: “When we first went to the Opportunity Centre I suddenly felt as if people understood.”
The Crowthers are doing their bit to help the centre by donating a grant they receive to help pay for them to go on holiday.
Mrs Crowther said: “We both work and I save for us to go on holiday so I would rather give this money to the centre to help its work.
“I hope other people will think of the centre if they have money to donate or are doing fundraising events.”
Opportunity Centre manager Betty Newman said: “Our job is to support and reassure parents and to give each child the chance to reach their potential.”
