HELLENIC LEAGUE: Horsell the hero as Highworth hit five
HIGHWORTH boss John Fisher insisted hat-trick hero Matty Horsell deserves everything he’s getting after his treble guided the club to an impressive 5-0 victory over Abingdon Town.
The midfielder worked hard all night as Highworth dominated their opponents and was rewarded for his effort with three goals and the man of the match award after also picking up the honour in Town’s 4-3 victory against Flackwell at the weekend.
TJ Bohane and Aaron Maximen also found the net, but it was Horsell who caught his manager’s eye.
“Matty was man of the match for sure and at the moment he’s just on fire and deserves everything he’s getting,” Fisher said.
“He is used to being out wide on the left but we have been playing him in the middle and he’s just been going past people so easily because he has so much pace.
“He works hard and follows everything up, and he really is playing well.
“A 5-0 win is great, but to do it without conceding is even better. A clean sheet, five goals and three points is all we can ask for.”
It was also a good night for Shrivenham as Dave Turner’s side returned from Thame with three points following their 2-1 win.
Matty Bown scored from the spot before Richie Miles gave Shrivvy a 2-0 lead at half-time, and the visitors were able to hold on despite their hosts grabbing one back.
“We’ve come a long way in a short time and we played well and gave a good account of ourselves again,” Turner said.
“We have a nice young team shaping up here and we were worth our two goal lead, and although it was backs to the wall at the end we managed to hang on.”
Wootton Bassett are in Hellenic Premier action this evening as they take on Wantage.
