A PERSON has been killed after being hit by a train near Swindon.
The incident took place just after 1pm today at Wootton Bassett Junction.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman confirmed the person had been pronounced dead at the scene.
She said: "Officers from BTP and Wiltshire Police attended the railway line near to Wootton Basset Junction, Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, on Wednesday, 4 September after a report a person being struck by a train.
“The incident, which was reported to BTP at 12.30pm, is being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from the South Western Ambulance Service also attended and a body was located. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to establish the person’s identity and contact their family.
“A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
The train involved was the 11.15am London Paddington to Cardiff Central service.
Services are now running again but trains between Swindon and Bristol Parkway are delayed by up to an hour.
