Brothers Burt and Ernie wowed the judges at a fun dog show to be crowned the best rescue dogs over five years of age.
The 12-year-old Jack Russell crosses were taken in by Bath Cats and Dogs Home from Wales, where they lived, after their owner died.
Claire Crew, of Marina Meadows, Devizes, was looking for another pet after her dog, Roo, passed away and adopted Burt and Ernie at the end of March. She was told before she took them on that Ernie had inoperable cancer and had three to nine months to live.
Mrs Crew said: “We are in month six now. You would never know there was anything wrong with Ernie. He is very perky and is such a happy dog.
“They are both lovely dogs, their tails never stop wagging, and I’m so pleased I adopted them. Burt sleeps downstairs but Ernie has managed to creep on to my bed to sleep. Because he is ill I haven’t got the heart to chuck him downstairs.”
Mrs Crew is a supporter of the Bath Cats and Dogs Home and was delighted that Burt and Ernie won their category at the home’s fun day on August Bank Holiday Monday.
