A Westbury man has been given a 12-month community order and a £145 fine after pleading guilty to assaulting his estranged wife.
Kane Elson Hurkett, 25, of Elm Grove, admitted using insulting language and spitting in the face of Lilly Bo Hurkett at North West Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The court heard how Hurkett, who is separated from his wife of two years, had been drinking on July 19, when he was helping Ms Hurkett mend a fence in her garden.
An argument broke out and Hurkett threw a hammer in her direction and spat at her, before going upstairs and smashing her teenage daughter’s television with the hammer.
Hurkett, who admitted being an alcoholic, was placed under a 12-month supervision order and ordered to undertake an alcohol treatment programme, in addition to paying the fine, court costs and a victim surcharge totalling £145.
