SWINDON Town Ladies opened their South West Combination League campaign with a 2-1 victory at the University of Portsmouth.
The visitors forged ahead after just two minutes when Chyna Collings headed home Sophie Jones’ corner.
Sheriden Palk’s shot skimmed the crossbar and then the Pompey keeper did well to hold Collings' shot from distance.
With 20 minutes gone, Town doubled their advantage when Jones found Palk wide on the left and the winger cut inside before beating the home keeper with a low drive.
The students levelled soon after and were then close to an equaliser, with one shot going just wide of the post before Town keeper Robyn Levett made a fine diving save from another.
There was little action of note in the second period and when a Portsmouth free kick went sailing over in the final minute, Swindon’s win was assured.
