HOLT won two events and lost two others in the men’s section at the Bowls Wiltshire national championship and county competition finals at Devizes last weekend, writes DAVE EATON.
They won the county championship triples crown and men’s unbadged singles competition title, losing out in the champion of champions final and being edged out by Westlecot for the Wiltshire Four Rink League crown that they won for the first time in their history last year.
Adrian Bolwell gave Holt their first success on Saturday morning with a brilliant fightback in the unbadged singles final.
He trailed Westlecot’s Mike Titcombe 6-3 at five ends and 8-7 at ten. Bolwell then raced 14-8 clear at 14 ends but then found himself 18-16 down at 20 before winning the next four ends for a 21-18 success.
The trio of Robbie Jeffreys, Don Gray and Justin Davis had a rollercoaster affair in the triples final before winning on an extra end.

But they hit back with two twos on the 17th and 18th ends to tie the match and force an extra which they duly won for a last gasp 20-19 victory.
Ben Gadd was always playing catch up in his champion of champions match against Wootton Bassett’s Kyle Anderson.
He lost the first three ends to be 4-2 down at five ends and 13-3 adrift at 11 ends. He never recovered and lost 21-9 after 21 ends.

Holt were only able to cut that to six shots at 15 and 18 ends across the board and pushed hard again but were still three shots adrift at the finish as they went down 78-75.
