Shrivenham pull off cup shock
SHRIVENHAM secured a surprise 3-2 victory over Oxford City Nomads in the first round of the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup last night.
Barrington Park chief Dave Turner had promised to pick an experimental side against visitors riding high in the Hellenic Premier and that tactic served him well.
A hat-trick from Josh Fowler meant that Shrivvy progressed to round two and gave Turner a selection headache for this weekend’s league game against new boys Brimscombe.
Elsewhere, there was no such luck for Wootton Bassett who fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Tytherington in the same competition.
Alex Rigley scored Bassett’s only goal of the night on a disappointing evening at the Corinium.
Jeff Roberts’ troops are now without a victory in three games in all competitions.
Bassett will get a chance to end their barren run when they make the trip to Ascot this weekend.
