Youngsters at St Joseph’s Nursery, Devizes, were amazed to see how things had grown in their vegetable garden when they returned after the summer break.
They were dwarfed by the sunflowers and needed both hands to hold the marrows.
The children have come up with recipes to use the ingredients, which they will help to cook this week. Manager Delia Hatala said: “Getting the children to plant in the vegetable garden is a wonderful way for them to see where the food their parents buy in the shops and put on their plates actually comes from.
“It gets them interested in food and hopefully they will end up trying something that they may not eat at home. We are looking forward to tasting what we have grown and are waiting to see the size of our pumpkins further into the autumn.”
