Devizes householder escapes unhurt as car ploughs into house
Devizes householder Dereka Dodson was fortunate to escape without injury after a car ploughed into her house in Station Road.
The car crashed into the front of the terraced house at 12.20am on Sunday.
Ms Dodson was upstairs at the time of the crash and said: “There was an awful screeching noise outside and a great thud that made the house shook. Bricks flew across the roof.
"When I got downstairs there was clouds – I thought it was smoke and there was a fire – but it was brick dust. I was concerned about the driver.”
A fire crew from Devizes attended to make the car safe and isolate the gas supply.
Ms Dodson’s house suffered extensive damage to the front and, at the request of a Wiltshire Council building control officer, fire fighters from Salisbury brought big metal props to make the building safe. Fire fighters removed rubble from the affected area and put the props in and finished their work at 4.35am.
