Changes to department entrance at GWH
12:40pm Monday 16th September 2013 in Latest News
LAST month building work began to transform the Emergency Department at Great Western Hospital.
The work is being done in phases and from mid-September the second phase, involving the refurbishment of the current waiting area will begin.
In order to begin this work, from lunchtime today the main entrance to the ED will be temporarily closed and walk-in patients requiring emergency treatment will be re-directed through an alternative entrance. Walk-in patients will need to enter the department via the West Entrance of the hospital.
There will be enhanced signage and arrows around the hospital site directing people to the new entrance and thanks to the support of the hospital’s dedicated team of volunteers, way-finders will be positioned along the route.
Ambulance crews will not be affected and will continue to bring in patients via the normal route, and the car park outside the ED will also still be in use.
Wheelchairs will be made available for patients along the West entrance corridor.
The ED doors will also be replaced and moved position to stop gusts of cold air coming through the doors. The temporary entrance is expected to be in place until the end of October.
