Run and raise casualty cash
The event, now in its 10th year, is sponsored by the British Heart Foundation who have taken over from former organisers Swindon Council.
Although all participants are encouraged to raise some money in support of the BHF, they can also raise funds for other charities, including the appeal to help furnish the children’s department once it is built.
Last month, the Adver launched the Making it Better appeal to help the GWH raise about £20,000 for the cause.
Now we are appealing to any half marathon participants who want to support more than one charity – including one close to home – to help us reach our target.
Hannah Persaud, fundraising manager at the GWH, said: “We would be delighted if anyone would like to help us brighten up our new children’s unit in the Emergency Department.
“Coming into hospital can be a frightening time for anyone and this new unit will provide local families with a more calm and child-friendly environment, away from the busy general waiting area.
“If you run for your local trust your donations will help to buy additional equipment, toys and furniture, which the department cannot afford with their NHS budget alone.
“Your support will make a huge difference to future patients and their families.”
If you would like to give, visit the Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/GWH-ED-Appeal; or text GWED50 with your amount to 70070.
People can also claim gift aid at no extra cost.
Alternatively, donate by cheque, make a donation in person at the cashier’s office on the ground floor, or email or call the fundraising manager Hannah Persaud to talk about other ways to fundraise on 01793 605631 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cheques can be made out to Great Western Hospital and sent to Fundraising Manager, Fundraising Department, Trust HQ, Floor 2, Great Western Hospital,Marlborough Road, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN3 6BB.
The half marathon takes place on October 13, with the start of each of the races, including the 13.1-mile half marathon, the five-mile multi-terrain and 2km fun run, at Pipers Way, near Nationwide, with the main race setting off at 10.30am.
The British Heart Foundation is dedicated to research aimed at ending the suffering caused by heart disease.
