A CHILDREN’S charity launched its Now I Know campaign to put Childline in every primary school in Swindon with the help of Swindon Town captain Darren Ward.

The pioneering Childline Schools Service relies on preventative work designed to equip children with the knowledge they need to act with confidence if they fear abuse.

The charity in Swindon aims to visit schools once every two years to talk to children about abuse, how to protect themselves and where to get help if they need it – hopefully before terrible and lasting harm is done.

Swindon Town Football Club has adopted the NSPCC as its charity of the year for 2013 and is backing the campaign with new Childline Schools Service Ambassador for Swindon, team captain Darren Ward.

Darren and the team are committed to helping children in local Swindon schools learn more about what Childline can offer and the team hopes to visit some local primaries in the coming months.

Darren said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to act as an ambassador for this fantastic service offered by Childline. It really gets into the heart of our community and arms local children with the vital knowledge they need as they’re growing up.

“As a father to two young children myself, I’m only too aware of the worries they can face and knowing that Childline is there for them to turn to is good to know.”

The service has already visited 243 children in three schools in Swindon and has proved incredibly popular with parents and teachers.
